Restoring 1930s Lakefront Log House to Classic Elegance

Preserving history while exploring modernity

The restoration began with structural problems at the lodge. This reflects the architects’ commitment to maintaining its historic value. As we worked to restore its former glory, we faced many obstacles. Casements that were rotting, basements that flooded and snow seeping into logs were just a few.

Amplifying light and views

The renovations were primarily designed to maximize the natural light and make the most of the stunning lake views. A large dormer with views of the countryside was installed to provide ample illumination. To achieve this, the architects carefully reproduced each window in the 1930s design of lodges to ensure seamless integration with their surrounding environment.

Renovation Brings New Culinary Haven

Along with renovating existing spaces, a modern culinary haven was installed within the lodge: A dormer-structure was hidden using roof insulation while maintaining an original ceiling to preserve the link with past tradition and history.

Maintain Zoning Compliance

To comply with zoning laws, a log house guesthouse had to be moved 25 feet back. Not only was this adjustment beneficial in ensuring compliance, but also enabled owners of this lodge to optimize its layout and increase overall functionality – something they were delighted with as this renovation not only rejuvenated it for personal pleasure but also helped preserve heritage of an entire lake community.

Inspired Design Elements

Bay Lake Lodge has a design that is reminiscent of classic log cabins. Each detail exudes timeless elegance from its meticulous stonework surrounding it to the charming chimney and stone fireplace – even down to stone pillars leading to the entrance and inviting porch showcasing log cabin living’s practicality and serenity.

Log Cabins: The Charm Unleashed

As seen at Bay Lake Lodge, log cabins have an undeniable appeal. The charm of the lodge can be seen both inside and out: logs and wood elements, rustic wrought iron fixtures, rustic furniture and railings, which seamlessly blend with exterior beams and log details, rustic decor elements and log details all add up to a beautiful lodge experience.
