This handcrafted log home is the story of Colorado couple who fell in love with it’s beauty and decided to permanently move there. They searched extensively and found a 40 acre parcel of land for purchase in Pitkin County. This was the perfect piece of land to build their dream house.

Inspiration and customization

While still in Florida, they began planning for their log home. They came across Montana Log Homes magazine while doing their usual grocery shopping. The cover featured their dream house. Montana Log Homes builds stunning log homes out of dead lodgepole trees that retain their inner cambium, and do not peel the bark. The cover of Montana Log Home Magazine perfectly captured the vision of the magazine’s editors.

Log House details and modifications

Their owners traveled to Montana to bring their dream of building log houses to life. Montana Log Homes worked with the owners to refine the project details. They chose a floor plan that met their needs, and made the necessary modifications in accordance with Pitkin County Building Code. They then designed an open concept great-room that included a dining area, living space, and kitchen. In this open concept room, a stone island with similar stones to the fireplace was created.

Innovative Design Solutions is emerging.

The owners of the home converted an adjacent porch into a sunroom. It does not increase the total square footage. Pitkin County has imposed size restrictions on the home. The only way to access the great-room is through French Doors or the walkouts from the first level garage.

The log home is designed for family living, with separate bedrooms and spaces for teenage boys. The lower floor is their sons’ private domain, with a gaming area, laundry and two bedrooms. The third level includes two more bedrooms, located on opposite sides of a long corridor. It also has television rooms and bathroom.

Collaboration and Craftsmanship

Gabe Butler from Montana Log Homes of Colorado helped the couple achieve their dream by building an impressive log home featured in a magazine article. Gabe Butler of Montana Log Homes of Colorado managed to create a similar exterior to the magazine article. He also asked his staff to build three-story bay windows covered with gingerbread shingles.
